If we were to name one person whom everyone at Daiwa House Modular Europe knows, it would be Huig. This assistant has been with us for more than twenty years now. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, read science-fiction novels and listen to music. His tastes vary: “But nothing beats Led Zeppelin in my eyes.”

“Getting things done no matter what, that is our goal.”

Always working

“Before joining Daiwa House Modular Europe, I was self-employed for eight years. During that time, I worked on lots of projects, mostly installing central heating systems. Being my own boss gave me a lot of freedom and led to many fun assignments. It also meant I was always working. I thought it would give me more freedom, but I ended up becoming my own slave. While working on a job, I suffered a nasty accident that prevented me from working. That also meant I was unable to get insurance. That’s when I decided to become a salaried employee again. I had come into contact with modular building before and that is how I ended up here.”

Coming out of the cold

“I was part of the field service staff for many years. Together with my colleagues, we realised some amazing and enormous projects. It was an incredibly fun time. I am not in my twenties anymore, however, so I love the fact that I can now work in the factory hall. My body had grown tired of being exposed to the elements. With a roof over our heads, we are not dependent on the weather. It is not too cold in the winter, nor too hot in the summer. This means I get to keep enjoying my work and my body won’t quit on me. I have many more years of service in me!”

The right mentality

“The temperature in the factory hall is much better, but the job I got when I first moved indoors was also perfect for me. In my role as assistant team leader, I serve as a kind of catalyst between people of all ages. I bring people together, which means I have to be a real team player. That is what makes my job so much fun. Getting things done no matter what, that is our goal. At the same time, we like to have fun together as well. The benefits of this job affect my personal life as well. I get to see more of my wife and children and I have more time and energy left to spend on my hobbies. It has brought me peace of mind.”

“At Daiwa House Modular Europe, you can earn a decent wage doing what you love and what you are good at. Hard work and engagement with your team are important for this. Mingle with the boys, be open and honest with each other and get the job done together. Achieving great results together is the best part of the job for me.”
